Oil for an engine is like the blood in the human body, if the blood is too thin it may cause damage, if the blood is too thick and sticky it may cause heart issues and other health issues right? Exactly same is the case of the Forklift engine or truck or car engine oil. Problem is that everybody is so busy in his/her lives that sometimes we don’t get time for the cars and other equipment in our lives. So without deviating from the topic let’s discuss the oil changing technique of a lift truck.
Yes, if the person is not prone to this he/she may find it hard to change the engine oil himself/herself. This requires some tools, car lifts and skills to accurately handle the oil change procedure. Even if the person is not cool in changing oil or is not accustomed to vehicle oil changing techniques he/she can easily refer to the owner or manufacturer (against some reasonable bucks they may change the oil). But if one wants to DIY start of by noting down the date when actually the oil was previously changed (usually they hang a handwritten card near the lever of the hire forklifts in Melbourne, which gives a reminder too), another creative thing is to write it on the oil filter with a grease pen (still writing it somewhere more reachable is recommended). Try to turn on the forklift or the truck engine in order to make the oil a bit warmer (so that it may not be sticky or thick) in order to make it drain easily and quickly, now just turn of the engine (tip: do not remove the oil cap while the engine is on) now carefully remove the drain cap and let the oil drop out of the forklift (put some pan or any pot to collect the dirty oil). Clean the drain cap itself in order to make it free of any dirty and sticky oil (look for the cracks and scratches on the drain cap). Check for any leaks and cracks in order to prevent leakage from happening. Now carefully reinsert the drain cap and by using the wrench remove the oil filter slowly and carefully (do not leave the gasket on the surface, detach it as well).
The basic purpose of the oil filter is to filter the oil (which is quite obvious), now unpack the new oil filter and put some oil of the mouth of the oil filter to make is easier to rotate and fit on the surface, give some ¼ turns (try not to over tighten). Grab the oil can and fill the engine with fresh engine oil (do refer the manual in order to check the exact quantity of the oil required, close the cap and start your engine to check any leaks or oil wastage.
